The richly decorated spherical case is adorned with winged putti and floral garlands, the dial signed ‘Robert Pleissner Dresden’. Stamped ‘DUFAUD PARIS’.
Dufaud was a distinguished 19th-century French clockmaker based at Rue de Saintonge, Paris (Tardy, Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français, p. 197).
Robert Pleissner was a prominent clock and watch retailer in Dresden, Germany, active during the mid to late 19th century. He was appointed purveyor to the Royal Saxon Court, a testament to his reputation and the quality of pieces he retailed.
