Louis Majorelle, one of the leading figures of French Art Nouveau, began his career producing high-end furniture in the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. This console is a prime example of that early period, where harmony of materials and refined aesthetics were paramount. Similar pieces were showcased at the 1894 Exposition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Nancy, marking a peak in Majorelle’s production of historical styles. During this time, he also supplied prestigious Parisian boutiques, including L’Escalier de Cristal.
