Elegant French Empire mantel clock depicting the goddess Pallas Athena, cast in finely chased bronze with rich brown and gilt patina. Athena stands holding her spear while resting her hand on a shield incorporating the clock dial, centered with the dramatic mask of Medusa.
The clock is raised on a griotte marble base decorated with classical motifs and rests on a rectangular gilt-bronze plinth. Models of Athena clocks were introduced by the renowned Parisian bronzier Claude Galle and later produced by his son Gérard‑Jean Galle.
