CHRISTOFLE & CIE. SILVER AND GILD BRONZE KYLIX

A silver and gilt bronze presentation kylix, Paris, circa 1875, inspired by the “Minerva Bowl” from the Hildesheim Treasure. The reverse is inscribed: “TRESOR D’HILDESHEIM / FAC-SIMILE GALVANIQUE / CHRISTOFLE & CIE”.
Dimensions: 7.5 cm high x 32 cm wide (including handles).
Note:
The Hildesheim Treasure, a remarkable collection of around seventy Roman silver artifacts, was unearthed in 1868 in Hildesheim, Germany, by Prussian soldiers. Among its most distinguished pieces is the so-called “Minerva Bowl.” Electrotype reproductions of the treasure were produced for museums, with Christofle & Cie. creating the finest examples. Today, the original Hildesheim Treasure resides in the Altes Museum, Berlin.
