Bruno Mathsson was a Swedish self-taught furniture designer and architect born in 1907. As the descendant of four generations of Swedish master cabinetmakers, Mathsson was exposed early on to the possibilities of new wood technologies. He soon found a great interest in furniture and especially chairs, their function and design. In the 1940s the director of the Industrial Design Department at the Museum of Modern Art, collected Mathsson’s chairs and included them in several exhibitions.
